Jambo
and muga to everyone!
This
past week has been really busy and exciting.
We have started our cerebral palsy clinic here in Mikinduri. We are
having the clinic on Wednesdays and last week saw 25 children and this week
around 12 children. Enrique and Carolina
Wulff (with Mission Doctors Association) come from Nkubu and Enrique (a
pediatric neurologist specialist) sees the patients.
He
is teaching Carolina and I how to do physical therapy for the children we
see. It is so rewarding working with these
children. There are so many children
here in this area with neurological problems and most of that is due to the
lack of pre-natal care. We are planning
on going into the high schools here and teaching about the importance of
prenatal care and preventative care. I
really feel the Holy Spirit is guiding us on this mission.
I
am starting catechism classes this week for the 7th and 8th graders at St.
Dorothy school. My first class will be
today and I will be teaching about All Saints Day and All Souls Day. I am starting a book of remembrance to have
all the students write the names of their loved ones and this will continue
throughout the month of November. We
will ask the priests to offer the Masses in November up for all of these souls.
I
went to Nkubu for the weekend and spent it with Carolina and Enrique. It is so wonderful having them close by. They
are like family to me! We talked about
and met several people that we want to start projects with. The Chaplain from the local prison would like
us to come out to visit with those incarcerated here. I would love to visit with the women
prisoners and start a prayer group with them.
I would like to have a weekly rosary and chaplet of divine mercy prayer
session every week. We also talked to
the director of a clinic run by the Diocese of Meru which works with the blind
and disabled. He really would like all
of us to come and help out at their clinic.
There
really is so much to do and Father B is so supportive of me doing anything I
feel called to do. This is truly an
amazing experience for me and although at times I just want to give up and come
home, the Holy Spirit puts things in my path to remind me of why I am here and
I am reminded to be grateful for this opportunity to serve these wonderful
folks here in Kenya.
I
want to thank Lay Mission-Helpers for allowing me this opportunity to do just
that!
Please
continue to keep me and the work I am doing in your prayers.
Love
Kathleen/Makena
